Unnamed Witness, Oz Park Chicago, April 7th 2017

On April 7th 2017, a witness came forward to report the sighting of a large seven foot tall bird-like humanoid in Oz Park in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago's North Side. The unnamed witness claimed to be jogging in the park at night with their dog when the dog became spooked by something and the birds in the park suddenly went silent. The description of the winged creature is very similar to the famous Mothman of Point Pleasant.

"It was about 7 feet tall ... it looked like a giant half man, half bird kind of thing … These wings looked almost bat-like and were at least 10 feet across from tip to tip … It rose into the air like a bullet and I heard it screech once more before losing it from my view as it rose above the trees and possibly the buildings."

This sighting sparked a reaction, many witnesses have begun to come forward and report their own stories of a "flying humanoid" in the Chicago area.

Boaters, Lake Michigan Chicago, April 15th 2017

Between 10 pm on April 15th 2017 and 2 am the following morning, Boaters on Lake Michigan had a sighting of a large flying creature. A statement from one of the witnesses included the following description:

“We were about two miles out on the lake, just off of Montrose at about 10 pm. We were enjoying ourselves when I happen to look up and saw what looked like a giant bat, and not like a fox bat. This bat was as tall as my husband, who is 6-foot, 4-inches, or even bigger. This bat circled the boat three times in complete silence before heading off towards Montrose. It quickly blended into the night sky and was gone in seconds.”

The witness who gave the statement above also noted that coinciding with the sighting of a winged creature, the boaters also observed a green light in the sky that streaked across the horizon.

Witnesses, Chicago, April 15th 2017

On April 15th 2017, a sighting of a large winged creature is said to have occurred in Chicago. The witnesses referred to it as a a “Lechuza”, which is a a manlike bird monster from Mexican folklore.

“We walked over there and saw what looked like a big owl. - As we walked up on it, this owl stood up on two feet and looked right at us. We saw what looked like a huge Lechuza, except it was about six feet tall and really big. It had large glowing red eyes that were completely freaking everybody out.”

Witness, Chicago International Produce Market, April 15th 2017

A report made in the Chicago area on April 15th 2017 was logged near the Chicago International Produce Market. According to the report:

“I looked up and saw the biggest freaking owl I have ever seen! I’m 6-foot, 2-inches, and I’m guessing this thing was at least a foot taller than me. It was completely black except for it having bright yellowish/reddish eyes like a cat. It stood there for a minute or two staring at everyone before shooting up into the sky and disappearing. It made everyone feel very uneasy and only took off after some guys threw some rocks at it. It had wings on it like an owl, only bigger and you could hear it flap those wings when it took off.”

Couple, Lincoln Park Chicago, June 3rd 2017

On June 3rd 2017, a sighting is said to have occurred in the Lincoln Park area around 10:00 PM local time. The couple, who wishes to remain anonymous, just finished a late dinner and were out for a walk when they saw the strange being. According to the report:

"[it was] a 7-8 ft solid black humanoid with wide membrane wings, that resembled those of a huge bat. The wingspan was at least 12 ft. The head was prominent, and thinner than a human head. The back end of the body tapered to a point. No legs were noticed, but could have been tucked up under the body. The figure was gliding quickly along the length of the street heading east, then suddenly ascended into the night sky. Neither heard any sound. Both witnesses told [Strickler] that they felt a sense of foreboding and were still terrified almost an hour after the encounter."

Another interesting case is an earlier sighting that was reported after the initial report but is said to have occurred on March 22nd to a local truck driver and Chicago local, Billy Bantz. He was delivering a shipment when he noticed something strange in the air.

"It looked like a flying Batmobile. I was sitting in my semi–trailer at around noon. I saw this object coming from Route 55 and Cicero. I saw it gliding, and, not too fast. No sound. I saw that it was not a drone, and the size of a large car. It climbed higher and turned twice…I can tell you that it glided just like a bird. It went almost straight up and I lost it in the clouds."

Bantz believes that this incident has affected his life. According to Bantz: "The more I speak of this, the worse my luck becomes. My mom died three weeks ago…I am not sure what to think at this point."

Researchers

Some researchers argue that it is probably a large owl, even though some witnesses have described it as more bat-like in appearance. While testimony concerning the appearance varies, one recurring theme seems to be consistent; the feeling of dread and doom that comes over the witnesses, and the sense that tragedy lies in its wake.

As reports continued to come in over the months of April, May and June, hosts Vance Nesbitt and Jennifer Ann of the podcast The Acrylic Ranch, went out on their own night investigations to try and catch footage of the monster. They experienced some odd battery drains on their equipment while in the area.

Lon Strickler, founder of the website Phantoms and Monsters, has received multiple reports concerning the recent rash of sightings in Chicago and has been investigating each one. He said "Each witness has had a feeling of dread and foreboding".
